IELTS Writing 02 (Discuss both views)

Question:
Completing university education is thought by some to be the best way to get a good job. On the other side, other people think that getting experience and developing soft skills are more important.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Model Answer:

The direction following which one can thrive in life has become a burning topic of discussion among the people of the society. A group of people believe that nothing can be as good as achieving a university degree. On the other hand, other people hold the idea that accumulating experience and flourishing soft skills play a more vital role. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my own opinion why completion of university education should be given the utmost priority.

According to a fair amount of people of the society, students must receive university education to secure an honourable job. They believe that students can reap benefits from their grade points in several ways. To begin with, the way of getting a high-profile job in big and reputed companies is widely paved away if someone can establish himself as a university graduate. The authorities of the companies tend to believe in the complete and systematic learning process of university through which a student can develop a ground analytical insight on a particular subject. Besides, students need to do research works on various topics while studying in university. The research papers can create an optimist impression in the job sectors since the authoritative figures can get a clear idea about a candidate's caliber, interest, time management, method of work and so on. For example, a recent study of the University of Texas shows that Canadian multinational companies have shown a strong interest in appointing those applicants who have university completion certificates. From the above discussion, it is clear that why some people redeem that getting tagged as a university graduate is the best idea to ensure a dignified and sustainable job life.

However, a certain amount of people prioritise the amalgamation of experience and possession of soft skills. They are inclined to believe that having a grip on different types of basic skills like team work, communication, problem solving skills and stress management are a great source to win everyone's heart during the interview and strengthen one's position in the workplace. When a student works in N.G.O.s, restaurants, bakeries, bookshops etcetera, he is exposed to the real world since he comes into the contact of a wide range of people. Here, the social skills work as his reliable guide to face everything with a quiet composure. The people also prone to believe that the university education which is confined within a particular subject is not much effective to shine with a glorious professional career. To illustrate, a study of 2020 showed that different universities are planning to include a course on survival skills along with the other courses so that the students can venture the field of various pragmatic qualities which will shape their life. These few instances bolster the idea that why a number of people give priority to learn real life skills and gain experience from those skills.

This essay has shown why people are divided into two parts over the matter of being a university graduate and mastering the soft skills. I personally believe that if anyone dreams of having a good job he must go through the full course university education because it will help him to be evaluated with respect in the society. Therefore, more parents will encourage their children to pursue university education for a higher degree and for the overall security of a prestigious job.
