Question:

The government should ban smoking in all public areas, even though this would restrict some other people's freedom.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons to support your answers.

Model Answer:

The government should impose a strict order to put an end to the inhalation of nicotine in public places although this action will curb the freedom of a certain amount of people who feel comfortable with smoking in public. This essay will argue why I completely agree with this cautionary statement. Otherwise, it would be difficult to keep the youngsters aloof from the dangers of smoking and the health condition of the non-smokers will be at stake.

In this age of modern technology, stress has become an integral part of human life. People have to face family problems, unemployment issues, health complexities, financial insolvency etcetera on a regular basis. Smoking can temporarily aid them to forget about all the frustrations of their life. Smokers choose public places to take a break from the harsh reality of life due to some reasons. To begin with, smoking is not allowed in some apartments since the landlords are highly concerned regarding the health of the other tenents. Moreover, the people who have the habit of smoking in the public areas want to enjoy the company of the other likely-minded smokers and elevate the level of enjoyment. To illustrate, a recent study shows that numerous small groups of chain-smokers have sprung up at different public junctions in Chicago and continue their smoking sessions for two to three hours everyday. These few instances bolster the idea why a fair amount of people bend to build up the habit of smoking publicly.

However, this practice should not be indulged at all and should be terminated forever by the government. If this practice is continued, it will allure the juvenile minds of the society and the youngsters will avidly try to get the taste of it. This will eventually lead to addiction and their budding future will be at stake. Besides, the non-smokers will be affected by the poisonous fumes of cigarettes and suffer from cancer, cardiac complications, and many other diseases. For example, a latest statistics of the University of Texas has shown that more non-smokers than smokers died all over the world in 2021 due to passive smoking. From the above discussion, we can discern the importance of prohibition of smoking in the public regions. 

This essay has argued why the government of a country needs to take effective measures to ban smoking in public places. The enactment of such type of law will work as a hindrance to the entertainment of the smokers, but the safe development of the future generation and mass health should be given the topmost priority.
