huEman (The True Colour) (Concluding Chapter)

Returning to home, Judy made phone calls and sent text messages as many as she could and informed her teammates about her location and other details. Hearing everything, the authority of The Science for Life Foundation decided to dispatch a team to the island where Judy is currently staying. They informed Judy that it would take some time to reach there because all the scientists were entrusted with their own responsibilities and so they needed some time to form a new team for this mission. Gopalam observed everything from the distance.

He asked after a long silence, "Are you leave us?" Judy realized that Gopalam had asked this question with a heavy heart. She replied after a long pause, "Don't be sad, Gopalam. I'll never forget you and your parents. I'll remember your selfless contribution in my life." Gopalam did not make any reply. "And don't worry. I'll give you a mobile phone and tell Mr. Debris to help you operate it so that you can contact with me," she added. "I ave not interest in it", said Gopalam. When Judy asked him the reason, he shouted and said, "It iz da real culprit." This reply was perplexing to Judy.

That night they all ate together and went to sleep earlier. The happenings of daytime, such as meeting with Mr. Debris, his ostentatious bungalow, the old servant, the young lad of twelve years and the mystery of his reddish eyes, the source of Mr. Debris's electricity, all these things constantly taunted Judy and she could not sleep properly. Suddenly, she heard the sound of a motor car. The sound was piercing since there was a pindrop silence in Batanes at night. She got up and went close to the window. To her utmost surprise, she saw some motor cars heading towards Mr. Debris's house. Judy did not understand anything properly. Then, she decided to follow the motor cars furtively. It was not easy to chase in the darkness, but Judy was circumspect about her movements so that none could catch her. The moonlight helped her the most. As soon as the cars came close to Mr. Debris's bungalow, Judy saw a shadow in front of the gate hiding herself in a bush. Nine people in total got down from the cars and the shadow was making commanding gestures to them using the left hand. The men took some heavy boxes from the motor cars and passed them to the twelve years old boys who were standing in a que just beside the shadow. Judy was stupified at seeing the shadow of 30 boys to whom the boxes were passed and they were going inside the house. After seeing all these things, Judy had no doubt that the shadowy figure was Mr. Debris. He was giving a huge amount of money to the men. She decided to return home at once. The rest of the night she strolled randomly and tried to discern what she just witnessed.

The next day, she asked Gopalam some questions about the previous night. She wanted to know whether Gopalam or his parents heard the sound of motor cars. She asked, "Didn't you hear anything last night?" Gopalam nodded his head and said, "Yea. We hear." Judy did not reveal anything about her adventure. "Who might come? Do you have any idea?" she further asked. Gopalam replied that it happened frequently in their island. As far as he knew some people came to meet Mr. Debris. However, there was nothing to get surprised. They all had faith in Mr. Debris as he dedicated his life for the welfare of the islanders. Gopalam further added that all the boys who were twelve years old lived in Mr. Debris's house so that he could give them proper training to study and work abroad. The eyes of Gopalam shone with optimism while telling all these things to Judy. He also wanted to get the guidance of Mr. Debris to establish himself in life. Judy listened everything carefully, but she could not feel relief. She did not get any fathom of Mr. Debris's nature. Everything seemed weird to her. She thought of charging Debris directly. Again, she abandoned this idea as she had no proof. "How Debris has charged my phone fully?" She asked herself. "There is no single scope of producing or supplying electricity in this island. Nobody even think of the existence of such thing. Candles are there only medium of light in the evening."

She became highly restless as there was no possible solution of these puzzles. Nevertheless, she tried to calm down herself and contacted with her team. The dean informed her that the team would reach the island in the next day. So, she should get herself prepared. After hearing this, Judy experienced a mixed feeling. She was extremely happy because she would go back to her work after a long time and fulfill all the unaccomplished missions. Though her joy knew no bounds, the memories which she had made with the family also flashed in her mind.  "I will never forget them and definitely try to do something for their betterment," she said to herself. She told about her departure to both Papa Ed and Mama Em. Mama Em started crying, but Papa Ed maintained a quiet equanimity. He said, "You kan cum here anytime. You are like our daughter nd we will alwayz love you."

In the evening, they sat to eat together and  talked about many things, especially about Covid-19 and the significance of  vaccination. Then, all of them went to their rooms. Judy tried to sleep at night, but she could not. She heard the crude sound of the motor cars like yesterday. Judy could not resist her from rushing to the window. Again, she saw that the destination of the vehicles was the bungalow of Mr. Debris. She was thinking of waking everyone up. At that time, she heard the loud sound of a plane's landing on the bosom of Batanes.  Almost everyone of the island woke up hearing the sound and came out of their houses with a candle in their hands. Judy, Papa Ed, Mama Em, and Gopalam all came out. Suddenly, a terrible incident occurred for which nobody was prepared. One men got off one of the motor cars and fired aiming at the people who got down from the plane. All of the scientists had searchlights in their hands and the lights of Mr. Debris's house were also lit up. When Judy saw her teammates, she became astonished because they were supposed to reach there in the next morning. She could not understand how they had arrived so early. One of her mates rushed to her and informed that it did not take much time to reach here since the weather was much favourable. Mr. Debris was also present there and forbade his people not to shoot anymore. The boxes his people brought for him were kept on the ground and suddenly noticed by one member of the rescue team. He went closer to the boxes and screamed saying, "Electric eel!" Judy went near the boxes and could not believe herself . Now, she understood how Debris charged up her phone. "Surround all of them," Debris commanded his men to enclose the scientists. The scientists had their licensed guns with them and they were about to shoot. Suddenly, Debris caught Gopalam around his arm and pointed gun at his head.  "Leave him, Mr. Debris", Judy claimed boldly. "At first, you leave this place, I won't let you ruin my game," Debris threatened. "You smuggle eel fish, Mr. Debris! Don't you know that it's illegal?" asked Judy with exasperation. "My foot," Debris spitted on the ground. When all these things were going on, every inhabitant of the island were extremely terrified because they had never experienced any such thing. Mama Em was crying and entreating to Debris to leave Gopalam. Though Debris pointed gun at his head, Gopalam was not afraid at all. Rather, he was trying to free himself constantly. Papa Ed made some subtle movements so that none could notice him and started throwing stones abruptly aiming at enemies' hands. The gun dropped from the hands of Debris and his men. The scientists attacked them and also arrested them. By this time, Debris's old servant and 30 boys came to the spot. All the boys were of 12 years old. Still, the boys were standing like robots. Debris saw that everything was going out of his control. So, he thought that running away would be the best solution for him.  He decided to return when Judy and her team would leave this island. Judy noticed Debris and ordered him to stop. "Stop, Mr. Debris. Don't run away. You must be punished for your crime." Debris continued running and said, "You could not stop me 14 years ago and you will fail to do that even today." Judy got stuck when she heard these words from Debris. Her feet were shaken. However, her brain was working properly and she did not think twice to kill this demon. Judy shot point blank and Debris fell on the ground. Everyone was numb and dumb. Nobody could understand anything. Her scientist friends were also bemused and became speechless. Judy was standing silently. Her eyes were blank. Gopalam went to her after some moments and she burst out into tears. The old servant, the biggest accomplice of Debris's mischievous deeds, came forward to make everyone's confusion clear and consecrate his own self. He started apologising from Judy.

"Forgive us, Judy", he said. "If we listened to you and adopted the path of honesty, nothing like this would happen." Then he told everyone that Debris's real name was Dayan Jones. Both Dayan and Judy worked together in The Science for Life Foundation and the servant was Dayan's assistant. There Judy and Dayan fell in love with each other and decided to marry.  Judy did not know that Dayan's had a passion for hypnotism and he attended classes regularly to master this skill. When she came to know, she was hurt, but she did not yell at her husband. Rather, she made him promised that he would not misuse his skill. "Then? What happened?"asked Mama Em. "Dayan promised, but the promise was ephemeral," the servant added. He further told that Dayan was not intended to use his knowledge and effort for the welfare of human beings. He was researching on the production of electricity from animals and wanted to be a billionaire. For this reason, he started conducting with smugglers to import eel fish illegally and conducted his research secretly in an unused laboratory room of his foundation. "One day, he was caught," Judy broke her silence. " This news got viral across the world within an hour and my all dreams were shattered," she continued. The old servant again said, "Dayan was rusticated and banned forever as a scientist. I thought that he would have a contrite heart for this reason, but the scenario was totally different." According to the old servant's statement, Debris was more and more bit by the instincts of the id and planned to initiate the business of trafficking young boys. He had a special fondness for those who were 12 years old. Nevertheless, nobody knew the reason of this bizarre fondness. He did research a lot made this island of Batanes his target because people of Batanes could easily be manipulated by him. So, he chose this place to fulfill his clandestine motives. Judy moved slowly to Dayan's corpse and removed his fake beard. She felt as if Dayan's had been in a deep slumber. Gopalam uttered,
