IELTS WRITING TASK 02 

Question: 

Some people believe that art, such as painting and music, do not improve people's life. So, the government should not spend money on it. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 

Model Answer: 

A certain demographic of the society holds the idea that the genres of art like music and painting do not have any contribution to the betterment of anyone's life. Therefore, the government should not invest any amount of money in these segments of art. In this essay, I will show why I completely disagree with this statement because both painting and music widen our outlook and keep us away from negative thoughts. 

According to some people in the society, the government should not finance the music schools and art exhibitions in  towns and cities since these activities are useless. However, if we dig deeper into the situation, we will be able to understand the importance of painting and music. Both music and painting can change our vision of life. The world of musicality and colours are so engaging and rewarding that one can build his career in the long run of life by learning them thoroughly. In this way, the traditional concept of earning name and fame by being doctor, lawyer, engineer etcetera will be changed. In Bangladesh, for example, twenty-five professional painters represented Bangladesh in an international event in 2021 and glorified the country's name. So, art can broaden people's view and lead them to a new direction. 

The modern world of the 21st century is immensely civilized. The more we are getting civilized, the more we are becoming  isolated from our healthy in person relationships and being devoured by the violence of social media and cyber crimes. Here, involvement in music and painting can be a respite and help us spend our time in a constructive way by stimulating our latent creative mind. If someone is engaged with learning art, then he will be able to cherish the virtues such as patience, observation, stretching of imagination and so on. Moreover, children will get a huge chance to make new friends in real life which will have a prodigious effect on their mental development. To illustrate, I have read in the magazine Reader's Digest that the more children attend drawing and music classes, the less suicidal they are. From the discussion, it is clear that the significance of these activities are lofty. 

Though there are some insensible people who think that the investment of money in art, for instance, painting and music is just synonymous to extravagance, I have already discussed in the essay why they are wrong. Government must take new initiatives to enrich these sections because they unlock new facilities to us by bringing change in our outlook and also dispel the toxic negativities of the digital world.
