IELTS Writing Task 02
(Agreement/Disagreement)
Question:
In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or
books because they will be able to read everything they want online without
paying.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this
statement?
Model
Answer:
It is thought that there will be no place for
printed books or newspapers in the future since people will be able to read
everything and get all the information of the world by reading online materials
without any payment. I completely disagree with this statement because the
chicanery of the websites which make the online versions of books and magazines
available to us will not be expunged thoroughly from people’s mind and the elderly
citizens will not be able to abandon their long-established habit of reading
books and newspapers in a traditional way.
Though it is supposed that people will lean forward
to read books and newspapers from the internet without any cost in the near
future, they will not be able to discard the paperback magazines and books. PDF
forms of books and online news do not demand any charge, but the websites from
which people read and download them are proven to be inauthentic sometimes and
cause troubles in the society. The authorities of those websites provide people
with fake news and abridged versions of books for their own profit for which
incomplete knowledge can be derived. As a result, confusions might emerge among
people while sharing information. Besides,
turbulence can break out in the society. In Japan, for example, two youngsters
fought over the issue of a celebrity’s life last year and the one who got information
about the celebrity from online was proven wrong as the website from which he
read about that celebrity was counterfeit. Since online websites have no
accountability to anyone, unchecked materials are published there to befuddle
people. However, the more conscious people are, the more aware they will remain
in the upcoming days.
Senior citizens have an inseparable bonding with the
printed newspapers and books. They are not quite familiar with the convoluted
functions of digital gadgets. Moreover, the traditional forms of magazines,
books, or newspapers work as a panacea for them to infuse energy and strength
in this fast-paced world. To illustrate, a survey which had been recorded in
Bangladesh in 2022 showed that 75% old people preferred to visit libraries and
read paperback books even in the age of eighty and above because this habit
keep them motivated and unlocks a huge
opportunity for socialization. So, paper books and the old format of newspapers
are irreplaceable in the elderly citizens’ life.
In this highly modernized world, it can be assumed
that online news, articles, magazines, and e-books will occupy the older
printed items. But this essay has shown why I totally refute this perception.
The sources of the internet can be misleading and create anarchy for which they
will not be able to win people’s trust. It is impossible for the aged members
to bid a farewell to the printed books and newspapers for the digital ones as
the former helps them restore vitality, vigour, and offer the taste of
socialization.
