IELTS WRITING TASK 02

QUESTION:

People today suffer from more stress-related problems than in the past. What is the cause of this? What are the possible effects of this development?

Model Answer:

Nowadays, human beings experience more troubles stemmed from stress in comparison to the past. Excessive attachment to the social media platforms is the predominant cause of the problems relating to stress. One can suffer from the decline of cognitive power and the bonding of relationships can be decayed due to stress-related problems.

In recent times, people are leading a more stressful life than the past decades without any doubt. If the root of this crisis is analyzed, then it can be understood that intense engagement with the social media is the key factor in this regard. People cannot think even a single day of their life without social media, for example, Facebook, Twitter, Thumbnails, Tiktok etcetera since these platforms bring them a huge offer for being entertained, making friends across the globe, sharing their own views. However, social media also have some drastic effects which cannot be overlooked. To embark on, cyber crimes are rampant on social media in the present world which can destroy one’s career and life forever. Moreover, violent verbal tiffs regarding religious, social, or political issues can make one frustrated utterly and swallow his productive hours. To illustrate, 35% of the juvenile people in Bangladesh belonging to the 12-17 year age group failed to pass in their exams being obsessively engrossed in the glittery of the virtual world and dropped out of their schools in 2021. This worrying incident caused cardiac arrests to most of their parents. So, addiction to the world of the internet can impose unnecessary strain on people by means of virtual crimes and aggressive verbal attacks.

The excess stress has several deadly effects on the whole human race. If this surplus amount of anxiety is not controlled, it will snatch people’s cognitive skills gradually and decay their relationships with their near and dear ones. A person will not be able to possess a clear vision about their future as his cognitive skills, such as problem-solving, decision-making, creativity, will be on wane. The lacking of cognition will lead to some psychological disorders like maladaptive daydream and schizophrenia. Furthermore, one will exhibit less interest in maintaining a healthy relationship with others because the stress will push him to lead an isolated life.  For instance, a stressed life is mainly responsible for some unfortunate disasters in Bangladesh, including; divorce, sibling rivalry, suicidal attempt, consumption of alcohol, and accidents. The more stress people embrace in their life, the more they suffer from neural diseases and collapsed relationships.

People lead a stressful life and face stress-oriented turmoils in the present world which were rarely seen in the bygone days. Unrestrained dependence on the social media is the root of this devil. This unwanted stress can seize one’s cognitive level and engender mental diseases. In addition, it is highly difficult to maintain wholesome social relationships with others just because of a highly-stressed life.
