Advanced vocabulary diary for smarter expressions



 


1) Sad 

Instead of repeating sad over and over again, we can use

                          * Morose

                          * Gloomy 

                          * Melancholic 

Examples: 

# My brother became morose when he heard about the demise of his colleague. 

# He always looks so gloomy after his break up. 

# John cannot get out of his depressed and melancholic state of mind after losing his endearing pet dog. 



2) Bossy 

Some beautiful alternatives to describe a person who is bossy:

                                *Officious 

                                * Domineering 

                                * Authoritative 

                                * Imperious

Examples: 

# Nobody will admire an officious person like Johnny who always interferes into everything and extremely rude in behaviour. 

# I have no idea how Cathy put up with the tantrums of her domineering husband.

# Though our aversion for our aunt is clearly conspicuous in our expressions, she tends to play the role of an authoritative figure in the family and places her suggestions in every matter. 

# My little sister is being more and more imperious day by day since nobody scolds her and rectifies her mistakes


  


3) Brave 

We can use some more advanced alternatives instead of overusing the word brave. The alternatives are: 

                                 *Intrepid 

                                  *Gallant 

                                 *Mettlesome 

Examples: 

# We need many more intrepid writers like Robert who will be able to unmask the truth of exploitation on women. 

# Our gallant soldiers have sacrificed their life to save the motherland from the torment of the foreign rulers. 

# Our mettlesome reporters have the courage to fight against the conspiracy of the hypocrite politicians. 



4) Innocent 

We use the word innocent quite frequently. Let's look at some more exciting and elevated ways to denote this state of personality. 

                                    *Ingenuous

                                    *Innocuous 

                                    *Naive 

Examples: 

#Naive people can be beguiled easily. 

# Rural people are always ingenuous since nature teaches them how to be so. 

# An innocuous person like Daisy can never be accused of theft. 


5) Scold 

Don't overstate the word scold. Some better alternatives are: 

                              * Rebuke 

                               *Reprimand

                               *Chide 

Examples: 

#Jian has broken his mom's mirror. She will definitely rebuke Jian if she gets the wind of it.

# Tony's boss has reprimanded him for his negligence to his work.

# William chided George for not replying to his letters. 


6) Latent 

The word latent has some more upgraded synonyms. These are: 

                             *Dormant 

                             *Hidden

                             *Implicit 

Examples: 

# Children cannot develope their dormant talents due to the lack of motivation.

# We have to find out the hidden meaning of this enigma. 

# The grave meanings of the characters' speeches are implicit under the upper meanings in the novel A Farewell to Arms. 

                                             

                                             


7) Short-lived 

We often overlook some really advanced words to talk about something which is short-lived.  The advanced words are: 

                            * Ephemeral 

                            * Evanescent 

                            * Fugacious 

Examples: 

# Youth is ephemeral. 

# Pleasure is always evanescent. You must accept the sorrows of life too. 

# Though beauty is fugacious, literary works are immortal. 



8) Passion

We definitely have passion for something in our life. But we should not repeat the word passion time and again. I have some beautiful alternatives for this word. Let's have a look at them. 

                            * Penchant 

                            * Zeal 

                            * Affinity 

Examples: 

# Anik has a great penchant for learning musical  instruments especially guitar. 

# Punam's zeal for making a world trip is incredible.

# Judy is not a nonchalant student like others. Her affinity to study is always ostensible. 



9) Stupid 

Nobody likes a stupid person, do they? I know that you also do not like. However, don't overstate the word stupid. Follow me for some other alternatives. 

              

                              *Obtuse 

                             * Blockheaded 

                             *Thick-headed 

Example: 

# Don't act like an obtuse guy. It is a matter of your whole carrer. 

# Tudy is such a blockheaded and stubborn girl that I just cannot put up with her. 

# A thick-headed person like Samson can never feel Phoebe's feelings. 



10) Eagerness 

The word "eagerness" is undoubtedly beautiful. Still, we want to upgrade our vocabulary stock by learning these lovely alternatives. 

                        * Elan 

                        * Alacrity 

                        * Ebullience 

Example: 

# She has completed the strenuous job of hiking with immense elan.

# I accepted Judy's invitation with alacrity. 

# Anik has a great ebullience for learning various languages. 



11)   Strict 

Moderate strictness is needed for everyone. but it is also true that children do not love their tightly strict and unapproachable teachers. They say, "I don't like my strict teachers", "The teachers are too strict and ill-tempered" all the time. Here, I am introducing some alternatives for the word "strict". 


                           * Stringent

                          * Rigorous 

                          * Rigid 

Example: 

# Though Jessica thought that the members of her in-laws house would be stringent, all the members are conciliatory. 

# Meeka cannot cope with the rigid rules of the school.

# Punam always maintains a rigorous diet in order to retain her curvaceous and toned shape. 




12) Skilled 

Hosico is always encomiastic to the skilled people. He always tries to use lovely words for them so that they can feel motivated more. Let's have a look at those cute alternatives. 


                           *Dexterous 

                           * Adroit 

                          * Apt 

Examples: 

# Apollo is dexterous at making concoctions. 

# Parijat is adroit at plying guitar. 

# Tuntuni is apt at darning socks. 




13) Nasty

Biting nails is a nasty habit. Similarly, repeating the same word all the time and sitting on the fence when it comes to achieve a marvelous vocab stock is also a bad practice. The word nasty, itself, offers you with some wonderful synonyms. Those are: 

 

                          * Uncouth 

                          * Haggish 

                          * Hard-featured 

Examples: 

# Tony always remains dirty, uncouth, and drunken. 

# Theodore's bizarre suit created a haggish appearance. 

# Despite being costly, the candle is hard-featured and spreads a bad smell. 




14) Talkative 

Being talkative all the time is not wise. You should have some time so that you can observe your surrounding. But what can be the other advanced words to imply the nature talkative ? Let's see...


                           * Loquacious

                           * Garrulous 

                           * Flippant 


Examples: 

# We are fed up with our loquacious neighbours. They rattle whenever they see us. 

# Girls are not garrulous all the time. Boys can be that too. 

# She is both flappable and flippant. That's why, she cannot dedicate her 100% focus on the significant tasks. 




15) Peaceful 

An environment surrounded with natural elements is truly blissful and peaceful. Just imagine that you are in such a peaceful ambience and learn these new words for peaceful.

                         * Idyllic 

                         * Tranquil

                         *Serene


Examples: 

# Judy makes my life idyllic.

# Both mountains and fountains bring a tranquil vibe to me.

# The drizzle has made the whole atmosphere serene. We could not bear the scorching heat anymore. 

                             
16) Hard-working 

A hard-working person garners everyone's respect. I have some beautiful synonyms to express my reverence to them. These are: 


                            * Assiduous 

                            * Sedulous 

                            *Diligent  




Examples:  


1) She was assiduous in pointing out every feature.

2) Sedulous actors are underrated most of the time. 

3) Students should be always diligent to their study.
